Video Machete is taking a step beyond its the work of Media Activism Institute (MAI). Broadening its mission to support community driven social change through participation and dissemination of our First Voices. VM launches its three tier capacity building media iniatiative JUST MEDIA. Working with local, national and transsnational partners, Just Media will promote media for the people, by the people and about the people.
Projects will focus on how social issues are impacting immigrants, of color and indigenous communities. To better understand how race, language, economics, gender, sexuality, class and religion overlap within the process of immigration and state sponsored hegemony. We will look at the impact of migration, globalization and environment and speak on the forces that look to marginalize positive community development.

Opening: FALL '07e
Video Machete is opening up its doors to become a gallery & resource for all communities. Help us build up the MUCHO COCO community resource library so that we may offer books (in spanish and english) and documentaries from around the world. Everything is for and about community. All materials will be made available to be borrowed or used at the CRL by community members, teachers and allies. So if interested in volunteering contact us.
Video Machete abrira sus puertas a la comunidad. Ayude a poner en marcha la biblioteca de recursos comunitaria MUCHO COCO. Esta biblioteca tendra libros en ingles y español, documentales de todas partes del mundo y un estudio/galeria. Todo se trata o forma parte de las comunidades. Todo material va poderse prestar o si desea puede visitar nuestro studio. Todo esto estara abierto para la comunidad, educadores y alliados. Asi que aporte a ser voluntario y registrese con nostros para esta nueva iniciativa.

JUST MEDIA: KNOW YOUR RIGHTS CAMPAIGN
Immigrant Communities since 911 have been living under a gloom where xenophobia and misinformation has caused us to live a life under fear and distrust. Constantly terrorized by the image of immigrants. the media presents them as the cause of all problems. JM vision is to begin the process of reconciliation and healing of our fragmented communities in the United States. This a collaborative project with Casa Guatemala.
What will this consist of?: Empowering communities to understand and exercise their rights through:
- Creating PSAs and distributing these and other informational media materials on our rights. - Linking with organizations to offer a workshop on the the rights of immigrants.

JUST MEDIA LAB
JUST MEDIA LAB is Video Machete's intergenerational, bi-lingual intro to tech and media workshop for community. Ya! Got It! is the basic understanding of the role of tech and media in our lives and how we as members of all communities must work together to create our own stories in our voices. This workshop will be taught in spanish and will serve as a model to be used with other communities and other languages.
JUST MEDIA LAB Es un taller bilingüe, entre generaciones, que servirá como una introducción a la tecnología y los medios. Este taller es para estudiar el impacto de la tecnología y los medios en nuestras vidas y como debemos trabajar unidos para la creación y diseminación de nuestras historias.

GLOBAL YOUTH : FIRST VOICES
GY is Video Machete's successful collaborative workshop that uses video, music and performance that speak on the immigrant voice and their experiences of immigrant youth and their communities. "First Voices " goes against stereotypes and xenophobia about people of many ethnicities. GY is the voice of community and youth dealing w/ socio-economic and cultural issues and how they then are part of their communities in creating and participating in their communal history and memory. Media for, about and by community. Workshops that will be offered are Silk Screening, Video, Radikal Soundz.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
VM's 2007 is beginning with various community partnerships in Chicagoland schools. Our partnership is starting up with Prosser HS. Also students from Prosser will be launching their 1st annual West Side video festival- "We Youth" to be held in May 08. This is a fest where works from various high schools will be presented.
Our Partnerships for fall will also be with the MultiCultural school of Little Village HS, integrating media and genetics.
