Kelly Rowland Marries in Costa Rica

Kelly Rowland quietly married boyfriend Tim Witherspoon on May 9th. The two tied the knot while vacationing in Costa Rica. The ceremony was intimate and did not include bridesmaids or groomsmen. There were about 30 guests including former Destiny’s Child members Beyoncé Knowles and Michelle Williams.

When news of her engagement broke in December 2013, 33 year old Rowland told People magazine that she wouldn’t be having a lavish affair.

“I think we just really want it to be us and our pastor. That’s it,” she says. “I mean, we are the only two that’s going to be in the marriage.”

Witherspoon, a manager, proposed to Rowland via Skype while she was in Bulgaria. Initially, the pop star was surprised by the proposal given their distance but quickly changed her mind.

“He asked me first on Skype,” she says, “and I was like, ‘We’re so far away from each other.’ ”

“But it was so late, I remember we were both just kinda like, honestly, just staring at each other. And he asked me, and it was just that simple to say yes. I was like, ‘I got my best friend to ride through life with.’ He really is my best friend.”

Rowland found massive success with Destiny’s Child in 1997. The group sold millions of albums and won dozens of awards. In the early 2000s, the group went on hiatus and Rowland began her solo career. She recorded ‘Dilemma’ with Nelly in 2002 and took home the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Rowland won 3 Grammy awards in her time with Destiny’s Child and 1 within her solo career.

Rowland joined the panel of judges on the hit television show ‘X-Factor’ in 2013. She joins Demi Lovato, Simon Cowell and Paulina Rubio on the popular reality show.

This is the first marriage for Rowland. She was previously engaged to football player Roy Williams but the relationship ended in 2005. The singer is notoriously quiet about her private relationships but hints that she managed to keep the relationship with Witherspoon under wraps for a long time.

“It’s been a while. We’ve kept it very, very low – for years, to be completely honest.”
